Born and bred in the metro-Atlanta area of Georgia, Malcom Moon developed a deep passion for performing at the tender age of four—specifically, singing and acting. Surrounded by the music of Motown-era icons and the raising R&B artists of the 90s, he was in awe of incredible vocalists, visionary performers, and transformative actors. His dreams of entertaining were intensified in high school as he became involved with the theatre department, flexing his vocal capabilities in the musical productions, honing his dance skills as a dance captain, and stretching his range in the straight play presentations. In the summer of 2010, Malcom attended the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program as a theatre major and voice minor. It was there, under the mentorship of Mike Funt and Wesley Godfrey, that he realized the endless possibilities that laid ahead.
After graduating high school in the top of his class, Malcom attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut as a double major in Theatre/Dance and Music. As a Questbridge National Scholar, he was heavily involved in various extracurricular activities including musical and play productions and the Trinity College Accidentals a cappella group. Notable performances include Louis Ironson in Angels in America, Jack in Into the Woods, and Jim Conley in Parade. During his sophomore year, he studied away at the Trinity/La Mama Program where he was immersed into the downtown New York performance scene under the tutelage of various artists such as Pablo Vela and Grace Kiley. He also received The Frank W. Whitlock Prize in Drama for his senior thesis, Spectacles, an original play dissecting race and sexuality representation in theatre. His music thesis, Jumping Trains—consisting of ten original songs, choreography, and visual supplements—was a major feat as well. He graduated in 2015 with honors.
passion never dies
Since then, Malcom has worked in the non-profit theatre industry with previous work at The New Group, The MoveShop, and The York Theatre Company. He currently works in the Marketing Department for Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY). He manages all social media content for the company and produces exclusive interviews with contemporary classical and a cappella composers, such as Deke Sharon, Eric Barnum, Paul Mealor, and others. Concurrently, he writes and records original R&B/pop music. On May 29, 2020, Malcom released his debut EP titled, Conversations In My Driveway, on all major streaming platforms. He hopes to continue writing and releasing new music. A passionate scholar of all things performing and visual arts, he relishes in collaborating with other creative minds and establishing a healthy, artistic environment. While performing is his strongest suit, he hopes to also venture into the worlds of fashion, food/culture, and activism.
